Day 1:

We bought six bales of wheat straw at our local hardware store.
We also bought this fertilizer (one pound per bale):

 

The bales are lined up 3 in a row north to south. The strings are on the sides.

 

We put half a cup of the fertilizer on each bale.
                                                                   

We watered it down with a hose.
