Today the straw bales needed another half cup each of fertilizer and a warm water soaking.
Two by fours were added to the tops of the posts to stablize them. (Thanks to my DH)
Fourteen gauge wire was run between the posts, two lines 10 and 20 inches above the bales and one line at 30 inches. These are for any vegetables that can climb like vines.
Black trash bags were anchored in between the rows with cedar mulch covering it so melons won't be in the grass and weeds as they grow off of the bales.
We recently got a large roll out recycle bin, so our old ones were re purposed for blueberry bushes. I cannot wait to see how they do. The milk jugs are holding some of our basil and cilantro seedlings.
